Many new technologies aim to reduce CO2 emissions in the atmosphere, and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) will play an essential role. Our products, including proprietary steel grades and TenarisHydril connections, have been extensively used in CO2 injection wells for Enhanced Oil Recovery and in salt domes. Our portfolio is well equipped to take on the latest challenges associated with CCUS injection wells.
We have solid expertise with the corrosive conditions found in offshore and onshore transportation for CO₂ use and sequestration.
In order to offer advanced performance for these challenging applications, we have been developed a wide variety of products (seamless and welded pipes, coating) through special R&D programs and international collaborations.
We supply a variety of low carbon steels and high alloys, such as the proprietary Thor®115 as a proven alternative to grade 91, as well as tubes and pipes with improved resistance to steam oxidation, allowing power plant engineers to take full advantage of the high efficiency HRSG in combined cycle power plants.
To ensure a 360-degree approach that captures all possible synergies, we have launched a global R&D program that focuses on the interaction of threaded connections and steels grades manufactured using different processes including hydrogen and CO2 in a variety of conditions of purity, pressure and temperature.
Also, Tenaris actively participates in normative bodies (ASME, API, ISO among others) and in relevant Joint Industrial Programs working on the development of essential knowledge in hydrogen-related technologies such as HyLINE (Norway, Sintef) and HyBlend (USA, DOE) and continues to participate in research groups such as EPRG, EIGA and DNVGL, which are dedicated to studying hydrogen.
Tenaris has published a number of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) stating the environmental performance of its main products based on their Life Cycle Assessment. The EPDs measure the impact of steel pipe on air emissions, energy use, climate change, the recovery of co-products and water use, from a lifecycle perspective.
The EPD declaration is in compliance with the rules of the International EPD® System and meets the requirements of ISO14025. We have obtained the EPD for OCTG, linepipe, structural, large vessels and power generation solutions.
