Tenaris announces start-up of the sucker rods plant in Veracruz

After an initial investment of $35 million USD, Tenaris began production of sucker rods in Mexico, becoming the only local manufacturer of this type of products.

Sucker rods are a product used in beam pumping and progressive cavity pumping in onshore and offshore wells. Tenaris offers a wide range of products including its BlueRodTM premium sucker rods and HolloRodTM Series.

Through the new facility in Veracruz, Tenaris will increase production of sucker rods to meet the growing demand of its customers in Mexico, the United States and Canada, improving the flexibility and optimizing the delivery times.

With this investment Tenaris will now be able to provide on a local basis a complete solution for Pemex's projects, through the provision of tubular products, premium connections, OCTG accessories and sucker rods.

"With this investment we will be able to offer high quality sucker rods to our customers in the energy industry in a more flexible way, especially for Pemex’s Chicontepec project," said Alejandro Levrino, Tenaris Sucker Rods Division Director.

With the completion of this first stage of the construction, the plant acquires the capacity to produce 450,000 sucker rods per year. In 2013 it will be able to produce one million sucker rods per year. Also 80 new jobs will be created.

In addition to the facility in Mexico, Tenaris has sucker rods plants in Villa Mercedes, Argentina, and Pindamonhangaba, Brazil.
