New Dopeless® production line becomes operational in Aberdeen, UK

A new Dopeless® production line began to operate in Tenaris´s threading facility in Aberdeen, United Kingdom, to better serve the needs of oil and gas companies operating offshore in the North Sea.

Dopeless® technology is a dry, multifunctional coating applied to TenarisHydril premium connections in the mill. The coating replaces the need for thread compounds.

“Our customers are facing extreme operating conditions in the North Sea that require drilling operations to be safe and efficient without harming the environment,” said Gordon Baxter, Tenaris Technical Sales Manager, North Sea. “Dopeless® technology offers significant operational and well performance benefits. It also makes operations on the rig floor safer and cleaner by eliminating the need to apply thread compounds,” he added.

Dopeless® technology was introduced in 2003 in the North Sea, following a customer request for a dope-free coating that would minimize the environmental impact of drilling. During its almost 10 years in the market, the technology has been field proven in a wide variety of applications.

Tenaris is currently expanding Dopeless® production capacity to satisfy growing demand and maintain its position as the leader in the provision of dope-free technology, and remain close to its main markets.
